Ironman Ali Day from Mooloolaba Closes In On 2014/2015 Nutri-Grain Series Victory
Heading into the final rounds, Ali Day maintained a slender two point advantage over Shannon Eckstein for the Nutri-Grain Series lead with the champion to be determined in the finishing two events.
The heat will be on for Ironman Ali Day from Mooloolaba Surf Club at Newcastle Beach on Sunday as he edges towards a win in the 2014/2015 Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Series.
Moving in to the final rounds, Ali Day maintained a small 2 point advantage over Shannon Eckstein for the 2014/2015 Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Series lead with the winner to be decided on over the finishing two events.
However, a solid performance from Matt Poole saw him win his first Ironman race of the 2014/2015 season after a stunning sprint finish with series leader Ali Day in Newcastle New South Wales during Round 5 on Saturday 3rd January 2015.
Day held the lead for most of the race up until Poole grabbed a terrific wave during the third swim leg that then saw both Sunshine Coast teammates duke it outing side by side throughout the final ski and board legs.
At the sprint to the finish, the Mooloolaba Surf Club ironmen gave it their all before Poole prevailed at the finish line ahead of Ali Day in second position and reigning Nutri-Grain Ironman Champion Shannon Eckstein finishing third.
With the victory, Matt Poole shifts right into Third Position in the overall 2014/2015 Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Series rankings with Eckstein remaining in 2nd position and Mooloolaba’s Ali Day edging 2 points further in advance to lead the opposition by 4 points going into the decisive Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Series Round 6 this Sunday at Newcastle Beach.

The 2014/2015 Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain Ironman Series offers Ali Day the chance at redemption after his heartbreaking defeat in the 2011-12 Kellogg’s Ironman Series final as the Noosa News learnt recently when they talked to Day along with veteran trainer at Mooloolaba, Michael King:
"It’s impossible for anyone to know how to handle that situation until it comes. He was only a young guy and someone who had never really stood on the podium, and all of a sudden he led in the final round and there were a lot of nerves.
